How a global pharma manufacturer stopped assigning supply risk by hand
A global pharmaceutical manufacturer assigned supply risk for its direct materials by hand, with the data spread across several systems. We built a governed risk data product that brings the sources together, automates the risk calculations and feeds the modernized reports the business already used. The challenge
The business needed to assess risk in the supply of materials used in production, weighing supplier reliability, supply-chain stability and material quality. Risks were assigned by hand, and the calculation logic behind them no longer met business needs. The data sat in the ERP, spreadsheets and other systems. The existing reports were aging, but the business still relied on them, so they had to be modernized without interrupting its work.
What we built
- Replaced manual risk assignment with reusable calculation rules that run as part of the data transformations. The outdated logic was reworked to match the business requirements.
- Brought source data from the ERP, spreadsheets and other systems onto one governed data platform. Models, jobs and tests were kept in version control, and automated checks validated the pipelines, transformations and report outputs.
- Moved the existing reports onto new views in the data platform and modernized their visuals, so the business kept working in the reports it knew.
